'The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing.

Lots of things are wrong.
You can't declare methods inside of another method. SpeedUP and applyBrakes need to be declared outside of main. acceleration in an integer, not a floating point number. That means it represents just whole numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.) and not fractions (.5, 1.5, etc.).
Speed / time will end up as 0 because of how dividing ints works. You can't compare ADDSUB to 'yes'. You need to use to compare Strings. speedUp and applyBrakes are methods. System.out.println('The car's speed is now ' + speedUP); doesn't make any sense. You need to call speedUP with the correct argument and then construct your message using variables. booleans are true or false, not yes or no.
If (YesNo yes) is nonsense.Style issues:. Variables should be camelCased. AddSub not ADDSUB. YesNo not YesNo. Indent properly. Yep, you're really making yourself unwelcome.
It's important to note that you don't make the rules here. We get a lot of people that breeze in, drop their homework problems here and demand (yes demand) help, then get offended when we don't fall all over ourselves at the opportunity.
They don't read the FAQ, don't follow the posting guidelines, and generally behave like poo-flinging monkeys at the zoo. If you want help with learning programming then learn the rules and be a good community member.
If you don't, you won't be getting much help. This is now the that you make an actually derogatory comment and get reprimanded. (The first comment in the meantime has disappeared)Original quote:I'll try to not be salty but, your comment represents the pinnacle of futility within reddit.
Not only did you not respond to my question but you also had to reply with such an unasked for statement that it even made me giggle a little bit. Yes, I thought Java and Javascript were related, however, just to prove that I'm not completely mental I searched the correlation between those on google (once again) and I was relieved to know that, in fact, I am now responding to a moron.where you just behave like a hyper sensitive, entitled, spoiled brat with the comment you are complaining about being perfectly valid and in no way abusive, nor passive aggressive, nor derogatory. You really need to change your attitude if you want to enter the real life and if you want to succeed there. You are constantly misbehaving and accusing people of being passive aggressive. You are asking for help. You even broke the rules of this subreddit when you originally posted.
So the whole problem is you, not the rest of the world.
The error message is very interesting, if you look at the first one, you will find that error is in line 7 and compiler complaing about but actual problem was in line 5 where a closing brace is missing.
